MIET Organizes Second Edition of Research Awards |

October 16th. Model Institute of Engineering and Technology, the only ISO 9001:2000 certified engineering institute in the state today organized the second edition of its annual Research Awards, at its Kot Bhalwal campus. Director, MIER group of institutions, Dr. Arun K. Gupta was the Chief Guest on the occasion, while Principal, MIET, Prof. R.K Abrol presided over the function. Around 10 faculty members were felicitated with the “Build for the Future” award and cash prizes under the Research Promotion Scheme (RPS) of the institute which serves to recognize and reward outstanding contribution of faculty members in achieving the research related objectives of the institute. In the last 2 years faculty members of the institute have produced 50 research papers, some of which have been presented at prestigious National/International conferences and published in reputed journals. Considering that research is not an integral component of the undergraduate programmes in engineering that the institute offers, this is indeed a significant achievement. Research papers produced by MIET faculty have been published in IEEE Press, Lecture Notes in Computer Science (Springer-Verlag) and Springer Science series which are some of the most reputed forums for publishing high-quality research in engineering disciplines. MIET faculty has also attended International Conferences at USA and Turkey, besides many locations within India. |

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Gupta greatly appreciated the faculty members for having put MIET on the International stage by having their papers published in various International Forums. He stressed that higher technical education without research is not relevant and exhorted on the young faculty members to take up research activities in a big way, since the journey is extremely challenging, but immensely rewarding. He felt that the faculty was doing an excellent job in preparing the ground for the start of M.Tech programmes in engineering disciplines in the institute, which would further boost the research activities. He reiterated the commitment of the management in establishing MIET as a centre for research and development and creation of good research facilities. He cited the instance of the creation of the Microwave Measurement and Testing Laboratory by the Dept. of Electronics and Communication, which is being setup at a cost of 15 lakhs, under the MODROBS scheme of the AICTE. Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Abrol hoped that the initial groundbreaking success achieved by the faculty members would result in the development of interest and aptitude towards research in the young faculty of the institute. He congratulated the faculty on busting the myth that research happens only in expensive research laboratories in institutions and Universities of higher learning. Basic curiosity and a will to undertake research is all that is needed to get started and facilities can be created gradually. |

Mr Ankur Gupta, Management Representative, MIET and overall in-charge of Research, Project Development and Publications, presented the details of the research conducted at the institute which included topics like network management, swarm intelligence, P2P networks, fuzzy logic, nano-technology, artifical intelligence, embedded systems, bio-fuels and analysis of materials. Among the faculty members felicitated were Dr. Ajit Virdi, Anil Kumar, Indu Gandotra, Bhawna Arora, Sukesh Gupta, Bharat Mehmi, Taru Mahajan and Ankur Gupta. |

MBA Induction Programme |

MIET organized an Induction Programme on 25th August 2009 for incoming batch of MBA students. Dr. Arun K. Gupta, Chairman, MIER Group of Institutions graced the occasion as Chief Guest, while Dr. Renu Gupta, Director, MIER presided over the function. Prof. S. K. Sharma, Principal, in his welcome address thanked the students for choosing MIET for their professional and personal growth and welcomed them to the MIET family. Prof. P.N Sharma, Head Department of Management Studies apprised the students about MIET and highlighted the achievements of the institute and the department since its inception and the steps taken to ensure the over all development of students during their 2 years tenure in the department. He reiterated the commitment of the faculty in ensuring the academic and professional success of the students.
Prof. Ankur Gupta, then apprised the students about some of the innovative steps taken by MIET in ensuring that sufficient opportunities are created for the students to compete with the best engineering talent in the country.
Later the incoming students interacted informally with the faculty and management over hi-tea and were taken around the campus. They were also oriented by individual faculty members on the course of study and structure of the programme.

Mr.P.S Velumani, in her address highlighted the achievements of the department since its inception and the steps taken to ensure the overall development of students during their 3 years tenure in the department. She reiterated the commitment of the faculty in ensuring the academic and professional success of the students.
Vote of thanks was delivered by Mrs. Arti Kotru Lecturer, Dept. of Computer Applications. Later the incoming students interacted informally with the faculty and senior students over hi-tea.

Faculty Development Programme |

A day long faculty development programme was organized under MoU signed between MIET & NIT,hamirpur on 18th Nov 09.A high level team comprising Director,Prof I.K Bhat, Prof Lalit Awasthi (CSE),&Prof. Piar Chand (HoD,MBA) visited MIET to conduct the programme.
