Founders

Educational Visionaries with Missionary zeal, rare dedication and progressive ideas hailed as Pioneers and Champions of Private Enterprise in Education in J&K State, Late Prof H.L. Gupta & Mrs. Shanti Gupta nurtured MIER from a small School, Model Academy with 2 Students in 1936 to a Major Educational Complex providing Education to over 4000 learners from Pre-School to Post Doctoral Level. We pay our Homage & Warm Tributes to the Sacred Memory of our Founders. Their noble spirit continue to inspire & guide us in our Vision & Mission Ahead.

Shri Harbans Lal Gupta was born in village “DUBHERAN” in Rawalpindi (now in Pakistan) on Feb.4, 1912. He graduated from Gordon College Rawalpindi in 1931 and completed his M.A. in Economics from Foreman Christian College Lahore in 1933. He liked English literature, Urdu and Persian Poetry. A firm believer in individual freedom, a staunch disciplinarian, Shri H.L Gupta was an embodiment of hard work and punctuality. He was broad-minded and loved humanity and was imbued with qualities of head and heart. In 1934 he qualified for the Fellowship of the Royal Economic Society, London and also completed his B.T. in 1941.
Sh. H.L Gupta, the illustrious founder of MIER, is admired for his foresightedness, vision, determination, leadership and entrepreneurial brilliance. He founded Model Academy as the first coeducational school in Jammu in 1936 after rejecting various lucrative job offers in the government and developed the institution with love, dedication, sacrifice and vision.

Smt. Shanti Gupta was born on 24th September 1919 at Ludhiana. She got her earlyeducation at Chakwal-Jehlum now in Pakistan and topped the list of successfulcandidates at middle level which earned her a scholarship for higher education atLahore by the then Punjab Government. She completed her M.A in Hindi and was later appointed as a professor in a college at Peshawar. She was married to Sh. H.L. Gupta,the Founder of Model Institute of Education and Research in 1942.
Immediately after her marriage she joined her illustrious husband in his pioneer endeavour for promotion of quality education in the private sector in J&K State. She was the Principal of Model Academy and Chairperson of the Board of Directors of MIER from 1983 to 1999.
