The management of MIET is committed to the cause of quality technical education and has taken all the necessary steps to ensure that the AICTE norms are met. The Institute has demonstrated this commitment by becoming the first engineering institute in the state of J&K, to achieve the ISO 9001:2000 quality certification, which is an international benchmark for the quality of educational services provided at MIET. Moreover, the institute has launched the following academic initiatives in order to enrich the teaching-learning process for the benefit of the student community:

- Signing of an MOU with Hewlett-Packard, India Software Operations, Bangalore, in the area of student projects. Under this tie-up MIET students undertake open-source projects of interest to HP under guidance of experts from HP, while being paid attractive stipends for the same. Since, HP has such a tie-up with chosen few institutes in the country it represents a feather in the cap of MIET.
- Setting up of the Cisco Networking Academy, in collaboration with Cisco Inc. to impart training to students of MIET in the area of internetworking technologies to increase their chances of employability. Towards this a state-of-the-art networking laboratory comprising high-end Cisco routers and switches has been setup at MIET to enable hands-on training for the students. All the course content is electronically delivered and students are evaluated online using Cisco developed study material. The first batch of students have completed the training formalities and have been declared Cisco Certified Network Associates after clearing their certification exams conducted locally at Jammu via a mobile pro-metric centre.
- Setting up of the EMC Academy, in association with EMC Data Storage Pvt. Ltd, which will impart training to students on the emerging field of Storage Area Networks (SANs). Towards this the faculty of the institute shall be specially trained by EMC to further train instructors from other academies and the students of MIET. EMC shall provide the detailed electronic course content and software simulators for the programme.
- Launch of the Centre for Software Development and Information Systems (CSDIS), at MIET, which selects students to undertake design and development of commercial software systems to provide exposure to the software development life-cycle and prepare them for jobs in the IT industry. Specialized projects based on the software needs of the institute and external agencies are carried out at the CSDIS, which also offers short-term value-added courses for the benefit of the student community.
- Setting up of the EDUSAT facilities, which provides the students of MIET an opportunity to tune into lectures delivered by foremost experts in the country, delivered via satellite transmission. It is hoped that this initiative will help in substantiating some of the concepts learnt by the students in the classroom and hemp in realizing the institute’s vision of creating technology rich learning environments for engineering students.
- Complete Automation of the Library Services of MIET was undertaken at substantial cost in the current academic year, which has greatly improved the efficiency of the library services provided. Internet facilities are also provided in the reference section of the library to enable students to utilize the vast resources of knowledge available on the internet as a ready reference for assignments and projects. Moreover, the institute has also subscribed to the IEL-Online resources under the INDEST-AICTE scheme, which provides online access to over 250 IEEE journals and conference proceedings. This is recognized as an academic best-practice by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).
- The Institute initiated a comprehensive Faculty Development programme (FDP), which sponsors faculty members for higher education programmes on full-time/part-time basis. The sponsorship provided typically covers the tuition fee and also provides grants for the purchase of books, research material and meeting contingencies etc. Under this scheme currently 17 faculty members are pursuing their M.Tech programmes in various engineering disciplines, while 9 faculty members are pursuing their PhD from various universities. The FDP covers nearly 25% of the faculty. Moreover, 30 faculty members were nominated to attend short-term training programmes at reputed institutions like the NITTTR and BITS, Pilani for continuous intellectual development.
- In keeping with its vision of becoming a centre of excellence in higher technical education, the institute launched a Research promotion Scheme (RPS) which provides faculty members monetary incentives for producing quality research output. Within six months of the launch of this scheme MIET faculty members have produced significant research output consisting of one patent filed at the US Patents and Trademarks Office and over 50 research papers in national and international conferences/journals. Considering that the institute primarily operates undergraduate programmes in engineering, where research is not an integral component of the curriculum, this is a significant achievement by the faculty and the institute.
- Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE) Students Chapter has been established at MIET, which aims to provide exposure to students of MIET to various National level technical events conducted by various ISTE members from time to time. Students of MIET have participated in various events of ISTE and Mr. Sumeet Sharma a student of MIET has also bagged the Best Student award at the recently concluded National Convention at Karnataka.
- Setting up of Advanced Software Engineering Lab with software from IBM Rational, which is the first of its kind in the State of J&K. This lab is equipped with the industry-leading software suite from Rational, including Rational Rose, Clear Case, Quantify, Purify and Pure coverage. These tools are used in every aspect of software engineering to simplify and automate processes such as requirements analysis, design and software testing.
- Industry-Institute Partnership Cell (IIPC) has been setup with financial assistance from the AICTE. This cell has succeeded in the institute establishing linkages with 4 of the top 10 IT companies in the world including Hewlett-Packard, IBM, Cisco and EMC. Moreover, the cell is actively inviting industry-experts to interact with the students and arranging industry-visits and trainings for the students.
- Setting up of Language Lab, which aims to improve the communication skills of the engineering students. The latest software in the language lab allows students to practice their spoken English by following automated voice commands and replaying their recorded voice to identify mistakes. This is again a unique initiative at MIET.
