To offer research based PG programmes in the next 3 years. To undertake high-quality research in emerging areas of computer science and information technology by developing competencies in various domains leading to the creation of intellectual property, publishing research papers in international journals and conferences and undertaking consultancy and project work for partners from the industry. To offer innovative value-added programmes for the students of the department to ensure that their skill development is congruent with industry requirements. To adopt the use of technology in creating technology-rich learning environments to improve student engagement and satisfaction levels. To organize national and international conferences, seminars, workshops and short-term training programs to disseminate knowledge and skills in computer science and allied areas. To establish symbiotic linkages with organizations of repute in areas of joint research and development, faculty and student exchange, organization of national/international events etc.     About the Department           The Dept. of Computer Science and Engineering at MIET is the first and only NBA accredited CSE department in the State of J&K, which speaks volumes of the high-quality instruction and training imparted to its students. Manned by highly qualified, committed and dynamic faculty and staff, the department in its short existence has emerged as one of the leading departments in the region in terms of placements, university results, industrial linkages, quality of project work, research and development, extra/co-curricular activities and novel academic initiatives etc. Some of the highlights/special achievements are listed below:           Only NBA accredited ECE department in the Jammu region. Qualified, experienced and competent faculty with industry experience. Over 120 students placed – in reputed organizations like EMC, HP, IBM, Satyam etc. Latest computing infrastructure – 1:1 computer student ratio with internet access to all students. Linkages with 4 of the top 10 IT companies in the world – Hewlett-Packard, IBM, EMC and Cisco. MoU with Hewlett-Packard for internship programme for final-year students, during which they are paid attractive stipends. MoU with EMC Data Storage Systems offering a “Storage Technology Foundations” value-added programme to all students. State-of-the-Art Cisco Networking Academy on campus imparting training on latest networking technologies leading to CCNA certification. IBM Rational Advanced Software Engineering Laboratory in place for training students on industry-standard software engineering tools and practices. MoU With Sedulity Solutions and Technologies, New Delhi to setup Centre for Information and Network Security. Centre for Software Development in place, which undertakes real-world software development projects and exposes students to industrial software development. MoU with Ministry of Medium and Small Scale Industries to develop business and entrepreneurship skills amongst students. Invited Lecture Series in place, which invites reputed academicians and industry-experts to interact with students on a regular basis. Computerized Language Lab available to students to improve their communication skills. Student Amenities – transportation, spacious common-rooms, individual guidance and counseling cell, industry-institute partnership cell and medical facilities available. Programming Club – offering hands-on self-paced training in System Level programming. Active Student Participation – in placement committee, department publications, 360 degree feedback system. Personality Development Programmes – compulsory student seminars, mock tests and interviews, aptitude building sessions, display-your-talent events, regular student participation in National level events etc. Plethora of Events/Activities :- - only department to have conducted National Conference in Computer Science and IT in the State - The National Conference on Next-Generation Computing and Information Systems (NGCIS), which is an annual event. - participation in yearly student technical/cultural event SAMMILAN. - Regular quizzes, paper presentations, celebration of important days etc. - Events conducted by students chapter of Indian Society of Technical Education (ISTE). - NSS committee regularly conducts socially relevant programmes.      Research           The department is actively engaged in R&D activities, having published over 35 research papers, with 20 international publications in reputed journals and conferences. Papers have been published in IEEE Press, InderScience, Springer-Verlag and Springer Lecture Notes in Computer Science, besides reputed international conferences in India, USA and Europe. The department actively undertakes research in distributed systems, peer-to-peer networks/computation, grid computing and software engineering. Even undergraduate students are engaged in working on research projects sponsored by Hewlett-Packard, Bangalore. Department faculty has two patents pending at the US Patents and Trademarks Office (USPTO), besides having a defensive publication to their name.           Forthcoming Events / Activities           Second National Conference on Next-Generation Computing and Information Systems (NGCIS’08), 16-17 October, 2008 at MIET.
