| “Science Day” was celebrated by the students and faculty with great fervour and enthusiasm. Several events were organized on this occasion including collage-making, technical paper presentations, song and skit presentations by students and offering of tribute to the Late Prof. C.V Raman, in whose memory the Science Day is celebrated. On this occasion Prof. S.K Sharma, principal inaugurated the event.The function was organized under the Cultural and Co-Curricular Activities Committee of the college under the convenership of Mr. Gourav Khajuria.
Later in the prize distribution function, Vishisht Anand (CSE) & Ankush Sharma (ECE) got top positions in painting competition & Ashutosh Sharma (IT) got first position in Collage making. |

NSS Unit of college organized a Blood Donation Camp on 11th April 2009. More than 125 members of the staff and students were seen in line for donating their blood.
It has been seen in the past that some of the poor people, who come to Hospitals, die due to non-availability of blood of a particular blood group. So to help those poor people of Jammu, and also instill the attitude of sacrifice for other members of the society, students of MIET has organized this event. Even a large number of faculty members joined in this noble cause.
Encouragement to Blood Donation Camp was given by MIER, Govt Medical College and the J&K AIDS Control Society. Dr Kumkum Sharma, Head Blood Transfusion Deptt. Supervised the blood donation process.

| 5 students of the Computer Science and Engineering department of the college attended the very first NISF (National India Students Forum) workshop organized at NIT, Hamirpur. These students were among 100 students from all over the country selected for this first of its kind programme which aims to develop the leadership potential amongst students. The selected students from MIET attended a rigorous 5 day learning program under the able guidance of European trainers. Several team-building exercises and games were conducted to simulate real-world scenarios and encouraging students to become effective decision makers. Lectures were also delivered to bridge the gap between market requirements and the curriculum to make students proactive for meeting the market challenges. |

| The penultimate day of the forum saw representatives of the industries Microsoft, Dessault Systems, Infosys, Reliance Communication, Altair Communications etc. and noted academicians Prof. R. Natarajan (ex-chairman AICTE), Prof. M U Deshpande (Member secretary AICTE), Prof. K S Sayaan (Chairman, ISTE North Zone) engaged in panel discussion with the students on how the industry sees the future engineers shaping up to fit in a competitive corporate world. The various sessions conducted by the trainers helped participants to understand the importance of team dynamics, problems sound engineering education system faces, empowerment of youth. To translate these objectives into vision a student body called STRIVE was created with an aim to bring together the most proactive student leaders from across the country, who through a sustained and an infallible network can help create a resource pool to work towards a common goal. |

| His Holiness Dalai Lama graced the concluding session with an enlightening speech on “Ethics of a Meaningful life”. The selected students were Sudhanshu Gupta, Meenakshal Sharma , Abhilaksh Wazir , Saboor Ahmed and Anshu Gupta from 6th semester CSE. All these students have also been selected for 2nd NISF proposed to be held at NIT Ahmadabad next year. Dr.Arun Gupta, chairman MIET, has congratulated all the participants for being a part of such a prestigious program. Prof. Ankur Gupta, Joint Director MIET, and Sh. S.K Sharma, Principal MIET also appreciated the students for their achievements hoping that they'll be an active part of upcoming endeavors also. |

World Telecom Day was celebrated of on 15th May by the students of MIET with great enthusiasm. On this occasion a Seminar on the topic 'Latest trends in Engineering' was organized by Student Chapter of ISTE, which was attended by the students and faculty members of primarily Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering. Students participated in the activities like painting and Rangoli.
Mr. R.K.Kaul, General Manager Telecom District, BSNL,was the chief guest on the occasion. In his inaugural address, he highlighted the importance of telecommunications and gave out the efforts BSNL is putting up to meet the aspirations of the users. He informed the gathering that this year, BSNL has selected the theme of 'Protecting our children in Cyber Space. |

| The music & dramatic club of MIET “MUDRA” celebrates Annual Cultural programme at its campus on 18th May 2009. MUDRA is vibrant club of MIET where students, during their off time, keep their hobbies live by doing practice in singing and dramatics. The function was organized by the cultural and co-curricular activity committee of the College headed by Mr. Gourav Nayyar & Mr Akshay Bhat. Dr. Devanand from the Department of CSE, university of Jammu grace the occasion as Chief Guest. While Prof S.K Sharma, Principal MIET preside over the function. The celebration started with lighting of lamp of learning. The students of various branches of Engineering participated in the event & mesmerized the spectators by presenting different cultural events. Group dance, solo dance & group song by the students were the attraction of the day. |

A “First Aid Training Programme” was organised by the PRAYASS, the NSS Extension & Outreach Committee of the college in collaboration with the Red Cross Society and in association with the Youth Red Cross Society, Jammu and Saint John Ambulance Service, New Delhi. . More than 40 Red Cross student volunteers from all branches of MIET participated in the programme.
Principal, MIET Maj. Gen. (Retd.) Prof. S. K. Sharma inaugurated the programme and emphasized the necessity for students to participate in programmes which are socially relevant and designed to help serve the society. Prof. Ankur Gupta Joint Director, MIET stressed that engineering graduates need to develop other life skills too, apart from the technical skills that they acquire. Mr. Mahesh Gupta Co-coordinator, Youth Red Cross Society, Jammu provided the history and details of functioning of the Red Cross Society and motivated the students to participate with vigour and enthusiasm in such programmes while Prof. B.B Mehmi, Incharge of the NSS committee at MIET, presented the vote of thanks. |

| During the training first-aid techniques for various kinds of injuries for accident or fire victims were demonstrated to the students. Sh.Kalyan Singh, Asstt. Commissioner, St.John Ambulance Bridge, New Delhi and a Red Cross certified trainer for the commonwealth countries and Dr. Shalini Pandita from S.M.G.S Hospital, Jammu were the part of the training team. On the concluding day, internationally-recognized certificates were given to the successful candidates. The programme was a part of sustained initiatives at MIET for the overall personality development of the students and to make them aware of their social responsibilities. |

A Seminar on “HIV/AIDS PANDEMIC - PAST, PRESENT & FUTURE SCENARIO” was organized in collaboration with the J&K AIDS Prevention & Control Society (JAPCS). The NSS, extension and outreach committee of the institute along with student volunteers was responsible for ensuring the success of the seminar with over 250 students participating in a highly informative and interesting session.
Minister for Heath, hoticulture & Floriculture Mr. Sham Lal was the chief guest on the occasion.
On this occasion a seminar on “AIDS Advocacy Seminar for Youth” was organized.

The speaker on the occasion was Dr. M.A. Wani, project Director, J&K State AIDS Prevention and Control Society, who provided insights into the evolution of the disease; it’s potentially debilitating impact on the global society and economy, myths and stigmas associated with the disease and possible means to prevent the occurrence of the disease, which has assumed pandemic proportions. |

The team of experts from the AIDS Prevention and Control Society was accorded a warm reception by the Principal, MIET Prof. S.K Sharma, who welcomed the initiative shown by the NSS committee and the students in the organization of the lecture, which he described as extremely relevant in today’s context. He stressed the need for moral values in the youth of the nation and felt that a disease like AIDS could be controlled only by inculcating the correct value system in the students.
The session concluded with an interactive question-answer session with the students, which brought many issues to light and provided food for thought for all present on the seriousness of the issue and the need to create more awareness about HIV/AIDS. |

Mr. Gourav Khajuria, convener of CCA Committee was the incharge for the event, Tanya Sharma, 7th Semester(IT), Sudhanshu Sharma 7th Semester(CSE) & Virat Gupta 7th Semester (ECE) were declared first, second & third respectively.
